Maternity Leave

Maternity Leave

Maternity leave: this is a picture of me checking my patients’ charts from my hospital room after I was admitted for my induction. As my long time followers and friends know, I am lucky enough to live in Canada and have been a resident physician during my first maternity leave. This allowed me to take off a full year of maternity leave with some income coming in from both the University and government. Unfortunately, as a practicing physician, we don’t get the same maternity leave benefits and I most likely will only take a few months off work with this baby. While I love my job as a doctor, I’m sad that I won’t have the same incredible experience of maternity leave I had with my first. With my first maternity leave, I got to watch my daughter grow into the spirited toddler she is today, I made incredible “mommy” friends- who I still consider to be some of my closest friends, I got to start blogging and working on my passion project @doctormommd and I got to spend time with family/friends doing things that I wouldn’t normally be able to do working full time. For all my friends and followers who didn’t get to take a full year of maternity leave, what tips and tricks do you have for making the most out of your short time off work⁉️
