How to help your child take medicine?

Children refusing medications? Here are some tips to help your little one take medications. (Thanks to the Ontario pharmacists’ association for the ideas):
1. Mix it with something tasty- but don’t forget to mix it with only a small amount of food because they need to finish it all to get the right dose.
2. Numb the tastebuds first: give your child something cold before like a popsicle or ice cream right before.
3. Give the medicine in a syringe (make sure you squeeze slowly so the medicine doesn’t hit the back of your little one’s throat and make them cough). 4. Give them some choices: how do they want to take their medicine? Cup or syringe or spoon? When do they want to take it, before bath or after bath time?
5. Make it fun: sing a song, let them give “some” to their favourite toy…

Always check with your pharmacist or doctor before any of the foregoing to make sure it doesn’t affect the medication.
