Room Sharing

The American Academy of Paediatrics recommends sharing a room with your baby for 6 months, or ideally 1 year to decrease the risk of SIDS. The Canadian Pediatric Society and Health Canada recommend room sharing for 6 months. ⁣⁣

When I was training in Family Medicine, one of my preceptors asked me about theese guidelines and then told me that he believes that waiting a year to move your child out of a parents room is detrimental to a marriage. ⁣⁣

When I had my first daughter, I wasn’t sure how long I would keep her in my room. It turned out that at about 3.5/4 months she began to feel comfortable in her crib in her room and we transitioned her out. I remember missing her a lot but knowing that it was nice to have my and my husband’s space back.⁣⁣
