3 month Development

3 month olds, what to expect:⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
There is no official 3 month visit with the doctor, so you don’t have to worry about any vaccinations. But what should you expect in your 3 month old?⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
1. Sleep- baby’s sleep patterns are starting to develop. Our little one now goes down at 7:30 with bath, book and bed and wakes up once around 3:30-4:30 for a feed and then sleeps until about 7:15. She also consistently needs a nap around 9am. The rest of her naps are more variable but we are definitely starting to see a pattern. When did you start noticing a pattern in your little one?⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
2. If your baby is not going to bed well, hold on a little longer. All the data shows sleep training is safe in 4 month olds and older. So try to hold on for another month if that’s something you’re waiting for!⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
3. Same with food, the countdown is on, in one month’s time you and your babe can start trying out solids! But not before 4 months.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
4. Developmentally, your child will most likely start lifting his/her head and chest when in tummy time (keep practicing that tummy time!), when he/she is sitting they may start being able to hold their head up, they will start rolling from their belly to their back.⁣⁣⁣
My daughter now doesn’t want to stay in tummy time and keeps rolling to her back every time we play on our tummy. So I have to hold her in place a bit now. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
5. Your baby will start to laugh. We just had our first belly laugh and it was amazing!!! They will also start to respond to people with joy by kicking their legs or cooing. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
6. Things you should talk to your doctor about are if by 3 months your baby isn’t smiling socially, they are not opening their hands up out of clenched fists or they don’t show special alertness to their mother. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
What is your 3 month doing? What questions do you have about what to expect? ⁣⁣⁣
